SUMMARY:Tower Tours and Cream Teas
DESCRIPTION:A weekend of cream teas and tours up the church tower to see Burnham and its environs in all it’s glory\, and imagine the Burnham of old.. \nSt. Peter’s in Burnham will be opening it’s doors to all for tours up the church tower; giving people the chance to experience the incredible views of Burnham and the surrounding area (as far as Bracknell on a clear day!) To tie in with the Open Weekend theme of Stories and Nature\, participants will be given a map of the Burnham of old\, where they can try and imagine what the area looked like hundreds of years ago. St Peter’s church has been a constant in Burnham’s evolving story\, and as part of this event they will be encouraging the community to donate towards repairs to their tower clock which requires a new mechanism. After surveying the views from the tower\, they will be offering cream teas in the church hall where there will be a display showcasing their eco involvement and informing people how to get involved. \nAccessibility: The church building itself and Cornerstone centre are wheelchair accessible. The church tower however is steps only and very steep.

SUMMARY:Le Carnaval de Venise: A Circus-Opera
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, we’re celebrating our fifth anniversary with a dazzling collision of Baroque opera and contemporary circus. Join us for Le Carnaval de Venise (1699)\, a joyful\, fast-paced and theatrical reimagining of Campra’s vibrant opera\, performed in-the-round under our iconic circus tent in the grounds of The Vache – or as we’re calling it this year\, Venice 2.0. \nExpect a feast for the senses as acrobats\, aerial artists and musicians bring Campra’s richly varied score to life. From lively folk dances with infectious percussion to lyrical arias and buoyant chorus numbers\, the music dances between French\, Italian and a little English too\, echoing the playful\, multilingual spirit of the original work. \nThe story opens backstage\, where a frazzled stage manager is frantically trying to get the show on the road. When the Goddess Minerva arrives and finds chaos\, she summons the Gods of Music\, Dance\, Painting and Architecture to help transform the scene. Along the way\, we meet mismatched lovers\, divine interventions and theatrical chaos – all culminating in a joyful ‘play within a play’ as the characters stage the Orpheus myth at the Venice Carnival. Just as the performance begins\, a pair of lovers seize the moment to elope – a fittingly dramatic conclusion to this Carnival tale. \nDirected by James Hurley\, with circus direction and movement by Rebecca Solomon\, this production promises energy\, spectacle and a hint of audience involvement. Starring mezzo-soprano Katie Bray and soprano Julieth Lozano\, it’s a summer experience like no other – bold\, beautiful and bursting with imagination. \nThe grounds open at 3pm for picnicking and exploring\, with installations and musical pop-ups to enjoy before the performance begins. Act I starts at 5.30pm\, followed by a relaxed dining interval around 6.30pm. Act II begins at 7.30pm\, with the performance concluding at approximately 8.30pm. \nJoin us for an unforgettable evening of music\, movement and magic under the big top. \nBooking is required. \nAccessibility: \nDuring the booking process\, we ask audiences to detail any additional support (wheelchair access and spaces etc.) that they might need to make their visit an enjoyable one. Our box office team are more than happy to assist and will get in touch to confirm arrangements closer to the event. \nWe have a BSL interpreter at our Relaxed Performance which takes place on Sunday 7 September!

SUMMARY:Disability Access Summit x Shape Open 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join Bucks Culture\, National Paralympic Heritage Trust\, Shape Arts and the Rothschild Foundation to celebrate access and inclusion work going on in the county’s cultural sector\, while also exploring current challenges and discussing next steps. This event will take place at the Brunel Engine Shed\, High Wycombe (opposite High Wycombe Train Station). \nAs part of a project to commemorate and celebrate 10 years since the London 2012 Paralympics called Together We Build\, a group of cultural partners worked together with representatives of the disability community in Bucks to develop their inclusive practice and an Access & Inclusion Manifesto. This event is an opportunity to build on this project and work towards the Buckinghamshire Cultural Strategy vision ‘to establish Buckinghamshire as the most accessible county for cultural participation’. \nShape Arts have recently moved into Buckinghamshire New University in High Wycombe\, following collaboration on Bucks Culture’s 2024 Stories project and are excited to bring the Shape Open Exhibition to Buckinghamshire for the first time in 2025. \nThrough the Disability Access Summit\, we aim to bring the Manifesto to life for existing and new collaborators\, refreshing the Manifesto and raising awareness through celebration of success and activities to accelerate the journey to embedded disability access in the Bucks cultural sector. \nThe day will feature speakers from key cultural partners\, representatives of the disability community and other stakeholders including Andrew Miller MBE\, ACE UK Access Scheme Champion. \nPart One – 1pm – 4pm – Access and Inclusion Manifesto Update and Next Steps Workshop \nPart Two – 4.30pm – 5.30pm – Bucks All In Briefing \nPart Three – 6pm – late – Shape Open Launch event. \nBucks has a long history of disability support\, not only through being the birthplace of the Paralympics but also through many charities\, such as Bucks Vision\, with a history of over 100 years.  In 2023 a group of 10 Cultural organisations set about developing an Access and Inclusion Manifesto and we would like to revisit reshape and relaunch this as collaborative effort linked the Buckinghamshire Cultural Strategy\, of which it is one of 4 priorities\, and to the Rothschild Foundation who want to champion this work.    \nTo book your free space\, please use this link: https://disability-access-summit-bucks.eventbrite.co.uk \nHighlights: \n1. Disability access remains very high on the priority of funders\n2. Some local funders will be expecting commitment to this in future applications\n3. Equal rights are important to us all\n4. Recent Welfare changes have highlighted the continued vulnerability of disabled people\n5. Access for disabled people in the cultural sector has not grown on average across the UK since 2009\n6. You can make change happen \nVenue accessibility: \nThe Brunel Shed is a relatively new venue and so we are still producing detailed access information. We will update this page as soon as we have further information. \nThe venue is step free and is located opposite High Wycombe Train Station and there is parking nearby. \nEvent Accessibility: \nIt is important to us that everyone is able to attend the event and engage with the conversations in a way which suits them. Questions will be asked at the time of booking to aid our planning and every effort will be made to accommodate the needs of all attendees.

SUMMARY:International Women's Day 2026: 'Give To Gain'
DESCRIPTION:International Women’s Day 2026 theme is ‘Give To Gain’ \nWhen we give\, we gain. \nTogether\, let’s help forge gender equality through abundant giving. \nThe IWD 2026 Give To Gain Campaign encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration. \nGive To Gain emphasizes the power of reciprocity and support. When people\, organizations\, and communities give generously\, opportunities and support for women increase. Giving is not a subtraction\, it’s intentional multiplication. When women thrive\, we all rise. \nWhether through donations\, knowledge\, resources\, infrastructure\, visibility\, advocacy\, education\, training\, mentoring\, or time\, contributing to women’s advancement helps create a more supportive and interconnected world. \nWhat will you Give to Gain gender equality? \nWe are delighted to be joined by Sarah Corbett\, founder of the Craftivist Collective \n\nBio; Sarah P Corbett is an award-winning activist\, author and Founding Director of the global Craftivist Collective. Born into an activist family in Everton: fourth most deprived ward in the UK. A professional campaigner most recently with Oxfam GB. Corbett founded the Craftivist Collective in 2009 to engage non-activists and influential target audiences globally to deliver what she coined ‘Gentle Protest’ tactics. Her pioneering work has directly helped change hearts\, minds\, policies and laws around the world. Corbett works with national charities such as Save the Children\, Mind and The Climate Coalition amongst others\, creates bespoke events for museums and and galleries such as Tate\, V&A\, Maker Faire USA as well as collaborates with unusual allies such as Secret Cinema to reach new and nervous audiences to activism. Her craftivism campaign with ShareAction directly led to Marks and Spencer paying the real Living Wage to 50\,000 staff – Corbett received The Economic Justice Campaigner of the Year Award for this from the Sheila McKechnie Foundation and became a lifelong Ashoka Fellow. WWF used Corbett’s 10-point manifesto to create their own successful craftivism campaign that led to a change in law to protect migrating birds. Corbett co-created the new Girlguiding Craftivism badge (2018)\, has exhibited in Stockholm (2015)\, Helsinki Design Week (2016) and with Designmuseum Denmark (2023-2024). Sarah was included in the Crafts Council 2018 ‘Power List’ and her TEDx speech ‘Activism Needs Introverts’ was chosen as a TED Talk Of The Day with over a 1.2million views so far. For her services in design activism and public engagement Goldsmiths\, University of London granted Corbett an Honorary Fellowship in July 2022.
