Open Weekend is back for 2026 – now in its SIXTH year!!! Come along, sign up or host your own event and be part of our vibrant, Bucks-wide event.
This year we will hold an extended Open Weekend(s) across 3 long weekends in August – 14th, 15th 16th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 28th, 29th & 30th.
Roots, Rhythms & Rituals
Step into a summer of long weekends where stories are shared, traditions come alive, and creativity connects communities across Buckinghamshire.
The Buckinghamshire Culture Open Weekend returns with this year’s theme, “Roots, Rhythms & Rituals” — a vibrant celebration of the people, places, and practices that shape our cultural identity. From ancient traditions to contemporary expression, this year’s programme invites you to explore how heritage is preserved, reimagined, and passed on.
Discover the Stories That Shape Us
Every place has a story. Every community has a voice.
“Roots” invites you to dig deeper into Buckinghamshire’s rich and diverse heritage — uncovering local histories, ancestral connections, and the traditions that ground us. Across the county, you’ll find exhibitions, talks, and interactive experiences that reveal the layers of culture woven into our towns and countryside.
Whether it’s folklore, migration stories, or craft traditions handed down through generations, this is your chance to connect with the past in meaningful and unexpected ways.
Feel the Rhythm
From live music and dance to spoken word and soundscapes, “Rhythms” celebrates the pulse of cultural expression.
Experience performances that span genres, cultures, and generations — from traditional folk to contemporary beats. Join workshops, take part in community-led sessions, or simply soak up the atmosphere as Buckinghamshire comes alive with sound and movement.
Rhythm is universal. It brings people together, crosses boundaries, and creates moments of shared joy — and this weekend is full of them.
Experience Living Traditions
“Rituals” explores the customs and practices that give life meaning — from seasonal celebrations to everyday acts of creativity and connection.
Across the weekend, you’ll be invited to witness, learn about, and even participate in cultural rituals from a wide range of communities. These experiences offer a window into how traditions evolve, endure, and continue to shape who we are today.
A County-Wide Celebration
The Open Weekend takes place across Buckinghamshire, with venues ranging from historic sites and cultural institutions to community spaces and outdoor locations.
Expect:
- Open studios and creative workshops
- Live performances and music events
- Exhibitions and installations
- Talks, tours, and storytelling sessions
- Family-friendly activities and hands-on experiences
Whether you’re a long-time resident or visiting for the first time, there’s something to discover around every corner.
Be Part of the Story
This is more than a programme of events — it’s an invitation.
An invitation to explore, to listen, to share, and to celebrate the richness of culture in all its forms. To reflect on where we come from, how we express ourselves, and the traditions we carry forward.
If you are a creative business, cultural organisation or artist looking to reach new audiences, test fresh ideas, and connect with like-minded organisations? Open Weekend(s) is your opportunity to showcase your work, engage with communities, and grow your presence across Buckinghamshire.
