Buckinghamshire Culture is an independent charity (No. 1196317) dedicated to nurturing and championing the arts, heritage, and culture across the county. We strengthen the sector through training and development, commissioning, strategic partnerships, and the creation of innovative projects that tackle challenges and seize new opportunities.
Our Mission
We work to promote, develop, and sustain public engagement with culture by providing leadership, strategic direction, and targeted support to the creative and cultural community.
By working together, we aim to:
- Expand access to arts and cultural experiences for all
- Strengthen connections within the sector through collaboration and shared goals
- Attract investment and secure funding for joint cultural initiatives
- Build capacity and enhance the long-term sustainability of the sector
- Raise the profile of creativity and culture in Buckinghamshire
- Embed culture into the heart of our towns, villages, and communities
How We Work
We lead a range of impactful projects and programmes, while offering tailored advice and support to individuals and organisations in the creative and cultural industries. We are guided by the Buckinghamshire Cultural Strategy 2019-29. We work in these ways:
Sector Resilience Programme – Networking, Inspiration and Training
We offer a year-round programme designed to support, strengthen, and celebrate the cultural sector across Buckinghamshire. Our initiatives nourish creative organisations, practitioners, and artists—building resilience, encouraging growth, and fostering connection.
From inspiring networking events, workshops, and training opportunities, to transformative leadership development programmes, we’re here to empower the people driving our region’s cultural life.
Every two years, we host the Buckinghamshire Cultural Conference, showcasing outstanding local work and welcoming thought leaders and inspirational voices from across the sector.
And each summer, we bring the county together for Bucks Open Weekend—a vibrant celebration of creativity in all its forms.

Research and Development – Piloting and Testing with a focus on Sector Development and Partnership
Our R&D work is about exploring new ideas, testing approaches, and driving innovation across the cultural sector. We pilot projects that address real challenges, support sector development, and encourage creative risk-taking.
Collaboration is key—we work with partners across culture, education, health, and more to co-design initiatives that build insight, spark innovation, and strengthen the sector as a whole.
Through this work, we help shape a more resilient, responsive, and connected cultural landscape in Buckinghamshire.

Advocacy – Highlighting the Value of Creativity and Culture
We champion the vital role that creativity and culture play in people’s lives and the wider community. Through campaigns, communications, partnerships, and storytelling, we raise awareness of the social, economic, and educational impact of the cultural sector.
Our advocacy work ensures that culture is recognised, valued, and supported as essential to Buckinghamshire’s identity and future.
Buckinghamshire Culture brings together representatives from creative and cultural organisations, higher and further education, schools, economy and growth, place-making and health and wellbeing alongside artists and museum professionals. We create space for discussion, collaboration and the development of joint projects. For a list of the networks we run, please see networks page.
