The Longest Yarn 2

From 2 August to the 31st, explore The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War—a spectacular 60-metre knitted and crocheted tapestry marking 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day. Each three-dimensional panel, lovingly stitched by talented volunteer makers, weaves stories of courage, resolve, and everyday life on the British home front during World War II.
Displayed amid the historic buildings of Chiltern Open Air Museum, this immersive artwork invites you to walk through the war years, celebrate the nation’s resilience, and feel the collective hope that blossomed on VE Day. The display illustrates Britain’s journey through WWII—from rationing, evacuees, and The Blitz to VE Day. This vivid collection captures everyday struggles, historical moments, and the emotional shift from despair to peace. Part of the Britain at War series, it’s a touching tribute told through yarn.
